Is Cuil Killing Websites?
Posted by sachref on September 2, 2008
New search engine on the block “Cuil” – once touted as a “Google Killer” is apparently killing every website except Google. The methods it uses to index websites are reported to be incredibly disruptive, visiting one site up to 70,000 times! This hammering of a site can cripple it by exceeding allowed bandwidth. In fact, this sounds very much like the denial of service attacks used by hackers to kill sites by overwhelming them with traffic. Cuil isn’t gaining any popularity by doing this. In fact, it sounds more like an internet scourge than a savior. Stay tuned.
